SEE MY SMILE

An entrepreneur's dream or a family’s nightmare?

SEE MY SMILE

Michael Herd

Can John develop a ground-breaking technology to break through his son’s autistic isolation, or will he break up his family in the attempt?
This is the story of an ordinary man, a loving husband and father, driven to risk his home and his family’s security to create a better future for them all.
  • "A perfectly paced read, covering the troubles and triumphs of not only the entrepreneur themselves but the knock on effect this has on family life."

  • "I really enjoyed reading this book. It is clearly inspired by much of the authors experience in helping entrepreneurs on their journey which makes the story seem very real and plausible. The plot moves along at a good pace and keeps you interested till the very end."

I started writing fiction based on my experience working with new start-up businesses. An avid reader, I realised that few novelists write about the personal and business dramas of starting and growing a business.
While running one of the UK’s top business innovation centres, I worked with hundreds of entrepreneurs. Some realised their financial dreams and others lost everything. While the business success or failure was the most visible result, I was more fascinated by the personal and family dramas that ensued. Friendships forged, marriages lost, ambitions realised, and dreams quashed - everything changes when you start your own business.
I am fortunate that my work with businesses and entrepreneurs has been recognised through numerous accolades, including the prestigious Queen’s Award in 2013. I firmly believe that my success is based on understanding the entrepreneurs’ personal challenges and being a mentor and a friend, and not just by focusing on their business needs.
Having worked extensively with “reluctant entrepreneurs,” I have been driven to share their compelling stories.
Beyond my role as an author, I work as a consultant and advisor. Currently residing in Cambridgeshire with my wife and family, I continue to work with entrepreneurs and universities, play with the grandchildren and try to make time to write my second novel.
